The Joan design features the ICONIC ALLY Civil Rights Actvists Joan T. Mulholland: Joan Trumpauer Mulholland is an American civil rights activist and Freedom Rider. She participated in the Jackson Woolworth sit-ins, March on Washington, Meredith March, and Selma to Montgomery March. Mulholland is first white person to attend Tougaloo College, and to become a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. During the infamous Freedom Summer, Mulholland and other Freedom Riders faced threats, were hunted down by the KKK, and held on death row for their involvement with the Civil Rights Movement. She has crossed paths with many influential Civil Rights leaders such as Dr. Martin Lurther King Jr, Medgar Evers, and Fannie Lou Hamer. Mulholland has won numerous awards for her fight for equality. She is now a retired teacher and has started a foundation known as the Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to educate the youth about the civil rights movement and to help teach youth how to become activists in their own communities.
